Launch of the Severndroog History Project
You are warmly invited to the launch of a new project which is a collaboration between the Severndroog Castle Trust and the University of Hertfordshire aiming to reinterpret the Castle’s history, catalogue existing materials, and explore its meaning as a 21st-century community heritage site.
We are delighted to welcome Professor Peter D’Sena Professor of History and Education at the University of Hertfordshire to launch the project with an introductory talk: Renewing the View: Severndroog Past, Present and Future
Free entry no need to book, just turn up
Thursday 9 July at 11am in the Courtyard
As the project develops, activities will include:
· Informal talks and guided discussions
· Community story-gathering
· Opportunities to work with historic materials, photographs and archives
· Collaborative development of new interpretation for the site
We are particularly interested in uncovering stories that are not yet widely recorded – helping to bring together personal, local and global perspectives and will soon be lunching an Oral history collection activity
The Project is intended to be community-led, with academic support for workshops and research skills.
Get involved
· Share memories, stories or family connections linked to the Castle or the local area
· Explore historical themes, including the Castle’s links to global trade and empire
· Contribute ideas for how the Castle’s story is told in the future
· Get involved in research, archives and interpretation
No experience is needed – just curiosity and an interest in history.
