Visitor from Mumbai at Severndroog Castle

In September 2023 We had a visit from a very special friend of Severndroog Castle: Bharat Gothaskar,

Bharat has advised the Trust for many years on the Indian history connected to the castle and the battle of Suvarnadurg in 1755, and over the years has given us several presents which have helped us understand more about the history of this event.

He paid us a visit in person bringing us an exceptionally generous gift- a hand made model of a Gurab – the type of ship used by the Maratha Navy commanded by Tulaji Angre in the battle of Suvarnadurg.

The model, hand made in Mumbai by a volunteer model maker with the Khaki Foundation ( a heritage organisation founded and run by Bharat in Mumbai) is now displayed in the William James Room in the Castle.
