A Strange Tower in the Woods:

castle exterior with greenery landscape

One of my roles as a volunteer at Severndroog is running a social media group that includes many reminiscences of the Castle and share individuals Severndroog stories. Through the Castle Window’ is another place we would like to invite our visitors to share their personal Castle histories. So I thought I would get the ball rolling with my own.

My earliest memory of Severndroog Castle was in the Easter Holidays of 1964 when I was 13. Having just moved to Eltham, I decided to explore the local woods. I came upon a strange tower which had a kiosk that sold ice cream. I didn’t think much more about it. I become aware of what it was called and nothing more. Roll forward 50 years, newly retired and looking for voluntary work.

Someone suggested the newly refurbished castle wanted people. It sounded interesting so I applied. Another eleven years have passed and I am one of the longest serving volunteers. That is my story; tell us yours!
