Presenting ‘Keys to the castle’ a solo exhibition of ceramic art curated and created by artist Himani J Weir.

Himani found herself captivated by the layered tales surrounding the origins of the castle. Two narratives unfold: one a poignant romantic tribute and the other a turbulent saga laced with pirates and privateers.

This exhibition invites you to take a look at some of the vivid personalities and complex political landscapes of the 18th century. Sculpting characters in clay and imprinting the textures of found objects, she weaves personal stories and ancestral legacies into a rich, tactile narrative of her own.

Himani J Weir is a ceramic and illustration artist based in Greenwich. She is known for her figurative sculpture and visual storytelling. Some of her work references background and the intersection of British and Sri Lankan cultures. She received a BA Hons in Ceramics & Textiles at Goldsmiths University, since then her work has been widely exhibited across London including the Migration Museum as well as many private collections.

Himani has produced a series of ceramics responding to the history of Severndroog Castle with the view to widen and explore perspectives.  The exhibition is presented in the Lady James Room and William James Room upstairs in Severndroog Castle.

‘Keys to the Castle’ events and workshops programme: Himani will be presenting a series of events at Severndroog Castle to accompany this exhibition, find out more at What’s On | Severndroog Castle
